High School Team Brings Awareness

By Autumn McMillan

PHILADELPHIA, MS (Take 30 News)---  The Choctaw Central High School Winter Guard Team is raising awareness for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.

The title of their show is called Am I Next, which they use the symbol of a red handprint that signifies the stolen sisters.

The title is an eye opener for the members since they do believe it could possibly happen to them. Kaliyah Tubby is a senior and the captain of the winter guard team.

"I go to Walmart here and there by myself and sometimes I'm paranoid of like am I gonna be taken like the other Native American girls" Tubby said.

Isley Mingo is junior and a member of the winter guard team.

"I do get paranoid once in awhile um I don't go to Walmart alone I usually go with friends but then again in Walmart there's people that are following you and like you just don't ever know what's gonna happen."
